This is a 1 hour seminar and attendees will be awarded 1 PDU for participa

In 1991, the Central Artery/Tunnel Project, known unofficially as the Big Dig, began. After almost 10 years of planning, surveying and government issues, this multi-billion dollar megaproject in Boston, which rerouted the Central Artery (Interstate 93) into a 3.5 mile tunnel, was underway.

However, this project became the most expensive highway project in U.S. history and was plagued by escalating costs, scheduling delays, leaks, design flaws, and use of substandard materials.

In this one hour presentation, Virginia Greiman will talk about her experience working on The Big Dig. She’ll also share her insight on managing risk, cost and complexity in megaprojects.

Presented by: Avepoint and the European SharePoint Conference

As SharePoint evolves as a platform and organisations application developers are challenged with bigger and greater solutions which require planning, design patterns, deployment strategies, flexible processes and a whole range of other development practices.

Over recent years we’ve seen the “SharePoint Solution Architect” role emerge, grow and fortify itself as a required actor in most large-scale projects.

This short webinar is a preface to my European SharePoint Conference 2011 session ” Advanced SharePoint Solution Architecture & Development” and I will use this time to introduce the basic concepts around SharePoint application architecture and what it involves, and set the scene for my talk in October.

Live Webinar – September 14, 1:00-2:00 PM EDT
Duration: 1 Hour Credits: 1 PDU Category C Free
Presented by : O’Reilly® Webcasts

We all know that digital data is increasing at an exponential rate driven by all the devices we use, ubiquitous networks, social media, and emerging technologies like the Internet of Things.

what is not well understood is how the components of big data, in the form of cheap storage, increased CPU power, and new algorithms, have changed the privacy landscape.

Today, the aggregation and analysis of data is commonplace. Predictive models are used to predict your buying behavior or flag you as a possible criminal or terrorist.

In this webcast, Terence Craig and Mary Ludloff, authors of Privacy and Big Data, ask and answer this question:

What level of privacy do you really have in the age of big data?

Get their take on the privacy debate from a number of different perspectives:

  • The surprising ways that data is collected and used.
  • The main privacy players and the business models that drive them.
  • Some approaches to maintaining your privacy and their effectiveness.

Join Terence and Mary as they consider whether the big data age has ended privacy as we know it.

Terence is also co-author of Privacy and Big Data to be released September 30, 2011. Never shy to share his opinion, Terence had this to say about big data information collection that was used to break down the door of an innocent family: “It used to be that it took weeks to accumulate that data. Now technology allows stupid people to be stupid much faster.”
