Duration: 1 hour webinar Credits: 1 PDU Category A – Free PDU
Sponsored by: PMI Organizational Project Management CoP (REP #S043)

After studying and quietly championing the concept of a Program Management Office at Montana State University, Anne Milkovich and her team were able to successfully launch a PMO with low resource overhead.

After one year of official operation, the PMO team attributes their success to a focus on portfolio management that enables them to demonstrate results to executives and win the support of distributed teams.

This session is appropriate for individuals from all levels of the organization who are exploring, launching, or re-focusing PMOs. By sharing practical tools, techniques, and processes developed and tested at MSU, attendees will be able to customize pre-built tools to quick-start portfolio management solutions adapted to their needs.

By focusing on a high return for low investment, a portfolio-focused PMO demonstrates high value to executives and stakeholders to enhance trust, credibility, and reputation in the organization.

This session is intended for individuals at any level of the organization who are exploring the effectiveness of PMOs, who are launching PMOs, or who are re-focusing existing PMOs. Audience members and their organizations will learn techniques, tools, and processes for establishing a low-overhead PMO that provides accountability and transparency into IT and organizational investments.

After attending this session, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the emphasis and advantages of a portfolio-focused PMO
  • Describe the main functions and resources needed for a portfolio focused PMO
  • Adapt a portfolio focused process and structure appropriate for their organization
  • Customize pre-built tools to quick-start and support a portfolio focused PMO
