Live Webinar – July 27th, 2016 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm EDT
Offered by MPUG WebnLearn ( REP 1369 )
Duration 1 hour + Q & A 1 PDU / 1 CDU
Mpug Member Free – Members only event

Even though Project Pro for Office 365 is available through a monthly subscription, there are many companies and individuals who still use old versions of MS Project (Project 2010, Project 2007 and (believe or not) Project 2003) to track their schedules.

All these people sometimes struggle on trying to create reports to quickly understand their project performance, once the reporting mechanism in old versions of the software is not as good as the mechanism that was introduced with the launch of Project 2013.

What most people do not know is that it is possible to export data from MS Project to a MS Access database.

By doing this, we can then connect to the database with MS Excel and create beautiful, interactive dashboards, getting quick insights of the key project information.

Also, this approach provides the user with the ability of keeping the report up-to-date, and also to reproduce the report for other projects if needed.

The key take-aways of this presentation are:

  1. Knowing how to export data from Project to a MS Access Database
  2. Knowing the information that is exported and how to manage it
  3. Knowing how to use MS Excel to connect to the database
  4. Creating a beautiful, interactive status report
  5. Keeping the report up-to-date
  6. Using the report for other schedules

Successful projects and programmes are critical to success.

Whether for the development of new products and services or transformation of an organization’s structure, the results of successful projects and programmes can deliver huge financial and competitive benefits. Unfortunately though, we don’t always get it right.

Reports and studies from a variety of sources continue to highlight problems with project planning, design and execution, with overall failure rates still alarmingly high. It’s a problem for all industries and sectors too.

The AXELOS Global Best Practice portfolio offers solutions designed to help organizations become more effective across a range of key business capabilities including project, programme and IT service management.

The portfolio includes well-established methods and frameworks including PRINCE2®, MSP® (Managing Successful Programmes) and MoP® (Management of Portfolios).

In this webinar Mike Acaster (LinkedIn profile) PPM portfolio manager at AXELOS – will provide an overview of the key AXELOS solutions (PRINCE2, MSP, MoP, P3O® and PRINCE2 Agile®) that support organizations around the world in developing and improving their project & programme management practices and capabilities.

As a high profile, highly complex programme with a large number of internal and external stakeholders, Crossrail has diverse user groups for its management information.

The reporting hierarchy comprises of a range of reports produced by Crossrail to meet varying stakeholder requirements.

The second webinar in the series aims to demonstrate how this process works and the various elements required for it to be an effective process.

Reporting processes are supported by effective information systems to hold, aggregate and summarise data, as explicit knowledge. Tacit knowledge is integrated with data in project dashboards which are presented to the programme executive at periodic Project reviews, where those responsible are subject to scrutiny, and are expected to advocate their position.

Presenters:

Mike Laws (LinkedIn profile) Head of Reporting Crossrail, has overall responsibility for reporting quality and discipline across the programme, acts as technical author for the Programme Board Report and external technical reports to Sponsors.
