What Project Management Means to Me

My #PMFlashBlog Sermon

Passing the PMI PMP exam is an intense event. After the application process, studying for several months and the four hour exam, I took a break from studying and learning to focus on my job as IT project manager.

After all, I had 3 years to earn the 60 PDU hours
I would require for recertification.

A year passed. I reviewed the PDU process and I made notes about the PM work I had been doing and the courses I had attended through my employer.

Another year later, the deadline started to loom a bit larger. Work was busy and it wasn’t going to be easy to get away for any extended course.

Then , I noticed an email promoting a ‘webinar’ on Risk Management. This 1 hour seminar would be available online and I could earn PDUs. I was hooked.

After this first webinar, I searched and found several more webinars
On the Project Management topics I wanted to learn.

As my searches widened, I found great webinars that weren’t specific to Project Management but were applicable to Project and Team Leadership.

I wanted to share these great resources with other Project Managers and over the Christmas Break of 2010, pduOTD.com was born. This project was near and dear to my heart and I couldn’t wait to get started. The site went live January 1st 2011.

At each pduOTD anniversary, I’ve done a retrospective on how Project Management, PMI and pduOTD have shaped my thinking, my career and my life.

My focus and interest in webinars has shifted from the technical skills of Project Management to the leadership skills of Project Leadership.

The webinars I have attended have made me a more Inclusive Leader,
Focused on Servant Leadership and Team Engagement & Empowerment.

I consider myself lucky to have combined Project Management and Professional Development using the tools of the Internet and Social Media.

Sharing The Wealth of Learning Resources
Available to Project Managers Has Been
My Most Purposeful & Passionate Project To Date.
