Meetings are critical to getting things done so we just can’t stop meeting, but this figure makes it pretty clear that they need to be improved.

This makes it important to learn the essential components for achieving meeting objectives.

Almost all meetings and anything critical to change in a business involves negotiation. This happens because whenever a group of people converge there will always be disagreements on how to approach the situation.

The problem with negotiation is that everyone tries to compete and win at all costs, which is completely wrong on every level of business.

The goal of negotiation is to move forward with the most optimal solution that time allows.

The critical piece is “that time allows”. We don’t have the time to push for all of our agenda, and the original reason for negotiation can be abandoned.

Ultimately, if you want to move anything forward, effective negotiation skills are necessary. To get things moving forward you have to facilitate discussion and work.
