In 1991, the Central Artery/Tunnel Project, known unofficially as the Big Dig, began. After almost 10 years of planning, surveying and government issues, this multi-billion dollar megaproject in Boston, which rerouted the Central Artery (Interstate 93) into a 3.5 mile tunnel, was underway.

However, this project became the most expensive highway project in U.S. history and was plagued by escalating costs, scheduling delays, leaks, design flaws, and use of substandard materials.

In this one hour presentation, Virginia Greiman will talk about her experience working on The Big Dig. She’ll also share her insight on managing risk, cost and complexity in megaprojects.
