The heightened pace of global integration, brought about by technological and economical forces, suggests that managers will increasingly have to deal with counterparts from cultures quite unlike their own.

This is particularly true for the project environment, interdisciplinary by vocation, which often presents Project Managers with the constant challenge of learning to operate in diverse cultural settings.

Although very popular in the recent decades, studies in cross­cultural management have not a long history. Many international projects have undoubtedly been carried through without anyone ever noticing that cultural differences may have caused unanticipated problems and unnecessary frustrations or hurdles.

As a consequence quite a number of projects never reached optimal levels of operation, successful turnover to the local authorities or indeed customer satisfaction, because cultural differences have amplified the “normal difficulties” that any project may encounter.

The presentations focus on these aspects: the challenges and the opportunities of project management across cultural boundaries; the lessons learned from a real projects and the models and theories behind the scene of “cross­cultural best practices
