As a knowledge worker in a complex organization you have an excellent opportunity provide fellow employees with help in developing and growing their skills and knowledge.  This is greatest gift you can provide to your co-workers and peers.

Mentoring and Coaching are NOT the same
And should not be conducted in the same way.

  1. Mentoring helps channel guidance into self-development. This is done by giving information, ideas and guidance, and letting the mentee find opportunities to test and practice.
  2. Coaching includes real-time observation and constructive feedback on what was observed.

It is critical that both the coach and mentee commit to the relationship in order for it to work efficiently.

In this session we will cover:

  • The similarities and vast differences between coaching and consulting
  • Establishing a coaching relationship using the five-step preparation process
  • Planning a coaching session
  • Identifying ways to establish a mentor /mentee relationship

There are myths and misunderstandings common to all organizations in which mentoring and coaching will provide a better understanding and clear perspective. It is critical you gain the facts on how to properly execute both.
