This webinar introduces an article, “In Search of Project Management Principles”, recently published in the Project Management Journal, PMI’s research journal.

The objective of the article is to determine whether a set of project management principles can be identified to serve as a common framework for developers and publishers of project management standards and guidelines.

Twenty-two project management standards and other consensus documents were reviewed, revealing a common understanding across the globe of the requirements for effective project management.

Potential statements of principles were extracted, clustered into four categories, and 12 principles were found to be common to multiple sources.

These 12 principles were rewritten in a pre-specified, consistent form. The authors hope that this set of principles will serve as a common basis for future standards and guidelines on project management.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Learn about the twelve principles discovered in the research.
  2. Understand how these principles affect them as project managers.
  3. Learn to distinguish between principles, practices, and processes.
  4. Increase their understanding of standards and how standards affect their workaday lives.
  5. Expand their knowledge of the standards and guidelines that affect project management around the world.

Online Webinar  – Recorded January 10th, 2018
Activity Type: Education – Online or Digital Media 1 PDU – Free
Provider:  The Corporate Education Group ( REP 1011 )

Projects are the mechanism to realize business strategy, create competitive advantage and achieve organizational transformation.

Important stuff, but most often, projects are being done in addition to ongoing business operations with constrained resources.

Therefore success is dependent on getting the right resources, spending your budget wisely, and keeping people focused and motivated to execute.

Warning signs that a project is headed to failure include missed deadlines, confusion, conflict and churning. All this can contribute to project manager and team burnout.

Effective project managers look for these early warning signs of failure and burnout so they can take corrective actions, but more importantly, they proactively work to avoid them.

In this webinar you will learn tips and techniques to:

  • Cultivate a healthy environment for your project, your team, and yourself
  • Create best practices you can rely on to drive the project forward
  • Leverage relationships to support and motivate

The topic of the webinar, close to the border of psychology, includes those ethical aspects that are tremendously influencing our projects and social life as well.

The presenters, Simona Bonghez (LinkedIn profile), & Leah Brophy (LinkedIn profile) are members of the PMI Ethics Member Advisory Group.

Simona & Leah will talk about the psychological distance between our actions and their impact, about how this distance explains some of our temptations (especially when we fell pray to them) and about the broken window concept applied in ethics (something that we encounter more and more nowadays).

Ethics tools available for practitioners are presented and their possible practical results shortly described.
