Live Webinar September 6th, 2023 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm EDT
Activity Type: Education – Course or Training  1 Hour  1 PDU
Provider: PMTA  Project Management Training Alliance

Project Managers have always been taught to focus on the Triple Constraint, Time, Cost, and Scope. That is a good thing as in order to successfully manage a project it is important to plan for, execute, and track these variables.

This focus has been reflected in PMBOK®s from the 1st through the 6th edition with PMI® taking a prescriptive approach to generally accepted project management practices.

As such, the PMBOK® editions have had an emphasis on predictive and iterative life cycles which usually follow a waterfall sequence of project phases.

In the 7th edition of the PMBOK®, PMI® decided to change the focus of the material to an outcome based format, more in line with ANSI, and ISO standards.

The focus is now on Project Management Principles and Performance Domains that are relevant to any project management life cycle.

This Webinar will cover the following topics:

  1. A brief history of PMBOK® edition changes
  2. Why Agile is different
  3. Explanation of Project Management Principles
  4. Explanation of Project Management Practices

Projects are the mechanism to realize business strategy, create competitive advantage and achieve organizational transformation.

Important stuff, but most often, projects are being done in addition to ongoing business operations with constrained resources.

Therefore success is dependent on getting the right resources, spending your budget wisely, and keeping people focused and motivated to execute.

Warning signs that a project is headed to failure include missed deadlines, confusion, conflict and churning. All this can contribute to project manager and team burnout.

Effective project managers look for these early warning signs of failure and burnout so they can take corrective actions, but more importantly, they proactively work to avoid them.

In this webinar you will learn tips and techniques to:

  • Cultivate a healthy environment for your project, your team, and yourself
  • Create best practices you can rely on to drive the project forward
  • Leverage relationships to support and motivate

Scrum Master and Project Manager are two roles that, for the past 15 years, coexisted well, especially in IT projects.

From the very technical role that was part of the software development team, the Scrum Master evolved into a new organizational role, sometimes with a well defined job description and with responsibilities that transcended the technical background from which it originated.

Although the role was defined in the Scrum framework, the Scrum Master role is now present in other frameworks and there are many training courses and certifications available from other organizations with different views on the skills required and the responsibilities of the Scrum Master.

It is additional evidence that the role is evolving beyond what the Scrum Guide authors intended.

The Project Manager role also changed since the Agile Manifesto publication and the adoption of Agile delivery frameworks. Mainly due to a dynamic business environment, more geographically distributed workforce, and last but not least because of the digital revolution: cloud, social media and mobile technology’s impact on how projects are managed and delivered.

Skills developed as a Scrum Master, like team and people management, are a good foundation for career development.

Like in any other profession Scrum Masters will reach a point where they feel the need to go beyond a Scrum Team of 5-9. Project Management is one option for career change but is it the right one?

This presentation with  Stelian Roman (LinkedIn profile); is based on his experience as a Development Team Lead, Development Manager, Scrum Master and Project Manager working with Scrum teams.

It contains also advice for Project Managers and Scrum Masters that want to play a dual role.
