Live Webinar September 24th, 2012 – 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm EDT
Duration: 1 hour webinar Credits: 1 PDU Category A – Free PDU
Sponsored by: Pharmaceutical CoP (REP #S012)
Presented by: Dr. Aaron Shenhar (LinkedIn profile)

The next generation of project management will
transform project practitioners into leaders
who must deal with strategic & business aspects of their projects
actually improve meeting time and budget goals, and …
build a vision to inspire their teams while having fun.

Projects today are more complex, more uncertain, and faster changing than ever; they are highly impacted by the dynamics in the business environment and, “one size does not fit all.”

The traditional project management discipline is too slow in adapting to these complex and rapid changes.

Furthermore, while the PMI PMBOK Guide and its PMP certification are important and necessary building blocks for the profession, just meeting the project’s ‘triple constraint,’ is insufficient to guarantee its business objectives.

It seems the profession is ready for the next step in its evolution.

We present Strategic Project Leadership® (SPL), which was built on the foundation of traditional project management during twenty years of research and work with corporations.

SPL helps organizations deal with their projects in a flexible and adaptive way, and focus their projects on business results by creating value, competitive advantage, and winning in the marketplace. This integrated, industry-proven, and PMI award-winning approach combines the business-related needs of projects, the operational aspects of getting the job done on time and budget, and the leadership perspective of inspiring and motivating the team.

Dr. Shenhar will use lessons from several famous projects to show how project teams can integrate Strategic Project Leadership® into their current practices by building new skills on top of the existing PMBOK knowledge areas.

Note: You do have to be a PMI® member to register for this opportunity.

Presenter: Dr. Shenhar is is currently the CEO of The SPL Group that is dedicated to aligning projects with business and widely regarded as one of the world’s leading experts in project management, innovation, and execution leadership. The first recipient of the PMI® Research Achievement Award, and is the holder of five academic degrees in engineering and management, Dr. Shenhar founded new academic programs, including the project management programs at Stevens Institute of Technology and Rutgers University. He co-authored the book, Reinventing Project Management: The Diamond Approach to Successful Growth & Innovation, (Harvard Business School Press) selected as one of the five best business books of year.

We all negotiate.

  • Some do it deliberately.
  • Some do it instinctively.
  • Some do it because they feel forced to defend a position, a personal value or their independence.

Every time there is a difference of opinion between what two people want there is an opportunity to negotiate.

Unfortunately, many of us have learned to associate negotiation with conflict. Certainly, if not handled in a respectful, professional manner the possibility of conflict is heightened.

In the Negotiating for Success webinar Michelle Moore (LinkedIn profile) will discuss what it takes to plan and conduct successful negotiations – those that improve relationships and achieve the desired outcomes.

The webinar will include the following elements:

  • What is successful negotiation?
  • The Negotiation Process
  • The Importance of Planning
  • Best Practices for Conducting your Negotiations

Presenter: Michelle Moore (LinkedIn profile) is a learning and development professional with in-depth knowledge and experience in Sales, Leadership and Communication Skills. Michelle facilitates Global Knowledge Leadership and Business workshops on a world-wide basis and is responsible for development and promotion of the Global Knowledge EMEA Leadership and Business Skills portfolio.

Live Webinar September 21, 2012 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm EDT
Duration: 1 hour webinar Credits: 1 PDU Category A – $15 USD PDU
Presented by: Solutions Cube Group (REP 2451)

  1. Do your project teams lack the clarity of how their project effort fits into the overall corporate strategic direction?
  2. When challenged with change requests, do you lack a clear way to decide if the request is actually in scope versus an expansion of the project scope?
  3. With multiple ways to develop a project solution, how do you know whether the proposed solution is the best fit for the project and for the organization?

Without alignment on both the objectives of the project and the objectives of the organization, project teams risk building the wrong or inadequate project solution.

Solutions Cube Group’s “Differentiating Business and Project Objectives” webinar provides an in depth lesson on documenting two often overlooked, yet critical, components of the Project Scope Statement: Business and Project Objectives.

In this 1 hour in-depth webinar participants learn:

  • Differentiate between Business and Project Objectives
  • Recognize how their project fits into the “Big Picture” strategic direction of the company
  • Minimize the subjectivity, when presented with Change Requests, regarding in scope needs versus scope creep
  • Understand how Objectives will help the team justify and contain the scope for the project solutions being proposed and developed.

Risk Based Auditing

Live Webinar September 24th, 2012 11:00 am – 12:00 pm EDT
Duration: 1 hour live webinar Credits: 1 PDU Category B – Free PDU
Presented by PROJECTinsight (Metafuse Inc)

Audit functions have the opportunity to add value to the enterprise when planning and executing audits.

One approach that adds value to the enterprise is risk-based auditing. Software tools are great but an understanding of objective fundamentals and application of risk-based auditing will enhance the value of any audit.

It is surprising to learn that many companies still do not have a fundamental understanding of what constitutes risks within their work environment.

If there is an understanding of risk it is performed subjectively to allow multiple interpretations so the one with the more power or clout easily wins. Not a good approach to holding back the tsunami that is on the horizon or right in front of your eyes. [If you haven’t seen the movie “Margin Call” then get it.]

Risk-based auditing is a process, an approach, a methodology and an attitude. It is about auditing the things that really matter to the organization and exploring the probabilities and consequences deeper.

Who should attend:

  • Project managers, Portfolio managers,
  • Project team members, Project Leads,
  • Project sponsors & function/business unit managers,
  • Subject Matter Experts, Business Analysts, Scheduling Specialists and ….
  • Other business stakeholders.
