Note: This is the rescheduled November Book Club Q&A Closing Webinar – Project Management Simplified: A Step-by-Step Process

There are a number of structured approaches that guide the successful completion of projects in business environments. Project Management Simplified translates these processes and techniques such that non-project managers can easily use these proven approaches in a nonbusiness context for their own projects.

The Step-by-Step Process in the book removes technical jargon, the need for computer software and hardware, and complicated organizational environments, describing the essential project management processes in a simple, straightforward manner.

As you progress through the book, you connect the dots necessary to complete your personal projects. A sample project in the text and a case study in the appendices further illustrate the concepts explained in the text.

The author, Barbara Karten (LinkedIn profile) challenges you to select a project and, working along with the book, be the project manager and develop a project plan. By working with customers and funders of the project, defining the project, identifying how long it will take, and determining its cost, you will develop the expertise to define project goals and create a plan to reach them.

Join Tolitha Lewis, (LinkedIn profile) for a live Q&A session with the author of Project Management Simplified: A Step-by-Step Process, Barbara Karten

Do you develop your people?

Over the last few years, WorldatWork has observed new trends in performance management including companies adopting more frequent and ratingless performance review processes.

Adopting these new trends has obvious recruitment, engagement, development, and compensation implications.

Traditionally, there is a misalignment between performance management, employee development and organizational health. Further, direct managers are often challenged by the time needed to maintain the development cadence with their employees to maximize performance.

In this session, Jeremy Spake (LinkedIn profile) Principal Consultant, Advisory Services for Cornerstone onDemand, will explore several emerging trends through examining case studies of companies using these new performance management concepts.

Discussing specific actions, Jeremy steps us through how to diagnose your current performance strategy, the benefits the latest trends have on employee engagement as it pertains to performance management, as well as discerning between learning activities and development achievement.

Success stories, lessons learned and considerations will be shared from multiple accounts of companies overhauling their performance management, learning and development strategies.

Note: SHRM has pre-approved this webcast for 1 Professional Development Credits (PDCs) towards SHRM-CP℠ or SHRM-SCP℠ Certifications.

Live Webinar January 17th, 2017, 11:00 am – 12:00 pm EST
Activity Type: Education – Course or Training  1 Hour  1 PDU
Provider: Gartner Webinars

2016 was the start of an amazing dichotomy. The pace of change in IT will never again be as slow as it is now, but global IT spending growth was lackluster.

2016 was also year of significant and unexpected news events, including Brexit and the election of Donald Trump.

This new period of prolonged uncertainty that started in 2016 will continue into 2017. Businesses will continue to invest in IT and will continue to expect revenue growth, but there will be shifts in spending patterns. Digital business, blockchain, IoT and the progress from algorithms to machine learning to artificial intelligence will continue unabated.

The climate of uncertainty will push new digital alternatives to save money and speed time to value.

Paradoxically, the same uncertainty will cause businesses to freeze CapEx preferences.2017 will be a year of extremes; fast changes and solid commitments, new business and retrenching business, old and new favorites, and above all, big headlines.

Discussion Topics:

  • Where Gartner sees IT spending growth in 2017 through 2020
  • How the possibility of a global recession is affecting IT spending
  • What changes will emerge around devices, open source, blockchain and the digital giants

Presenter:  John-David Lovelock, (LinkedIn profile, Gartner bio) Research VP
