BPM: It’s Not Just About the Tools

Share

Live Webinar February 23rd, 2012 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm EST
Duration: 1 Hour Credits: 1 PDU Category A – Free PDU
Presented by: Watermark Learning (REP 1025)

The Business Analyst (BA) role has become essential in today’s workplace as a vital component of a successful project.

This presentation gives an overview of Business Process Management (BPM) from a business analysis and project management perspective.

  1. It explains why and how business analysts (BAs) and project managers (PMs) can exploit a process mindset to help their organizations “see and think” differently.
  2. It walks through the definition and components of a BPM program, highlighting the role of business analysis and project management in every step.
  3. It defines a BPM program consisting of the discipline, daily practices, and tools to establish and maintain a persistent, intensive focus to help organizations improve their processes, save money, and increase control.

Software tools for BPM such as automated workflow, simulation, and process monitoring are not enough.

Tools can help to automate, track, and monitor processes, but humans must still apply the hard work of analyzing and managing them. When implemented correctly, BPM is the missing or magic ingredient to make all organizations more competitive and financially healthy in tough economic times.

BPM relies on close integration with project management and business analysis to be most effective. How BAs and PMs can help increase that integration is also an important part of this presentation.

Presenter: – Sara Braziller, ,CIRM, CPIM is a consultant with over 27 years of successfully leading/managing projects, establishing high performing organizations, and problem solving. Sara helps companies improve utilization of people and assets (i.e., business processes and systems). Sara is also a faculty member for Watermark Learning and at several local Universities where she has designed and teaches graduate courses in Lean, Six Sigma and Enterprise Information Systems. Her practical approach and fun style of learning has resulted in a large network of satisfied attendees and knowledgeable followers.

Presence is the corporate “it” factor. It’s directly linked to your ability to get noticed, forge trusting relationships, and get others on board with your agenda. In increasingly distributed companies, managers are often left alone to translate a vision and galvanize cross-functional teams.

Influence is the primary means for getting work done.

The Wall Street Journal recently weighed in, stating that “presence plays an increasingly important role as companies grapple with a weak recovery and fewer management layers.”

Presence is an amorphous concept with a defined impact in our success. We’re experts at reading others’ presence, but it’s remarkably hard to understand and shape our own without the right approach.

The good news is that anyone can strengthen their presence in a way that’s authentic, natural, and influential whether they’re an introvert, extrovert, aspiring or seasoned leader.

Discover what skills are needed to inspire and motivate by focusing on the three core aspects of presence:

  1. Intentional: Determine the type of presence you want and the values you want to convey, and how they match up with the way people currently perceive you.
  2. Individual: Understand how to build relationships that foster trust, and that drive business, loyalty, and career success.
  3. Inspirational: Learn what the master communicators do to inspire others, including using powerful language, motivating through change, and presenting to audiences effectively.

Presenter: Kristi Hedges (LinkedIn profile) is an executive coach, leadership development consultant, and author of The Power of Presence: Unlock Your Potential to Influence and Engage Others. Her proprietary presence coaching model has been utilized by clients spanning Fortune 500 corporations, global professional services firms, entrepreneurial businesses, national associations, and governments. She’s a leadership contributor to Forbes.com and Entrepreneur.com, and a speaker for Vistage International and The Founder Institute. She writes about leadership atkristihedges.com and tweets @kristihedges.
