There Are Many Approaches To Take In Project Planning

You may take a straightforward, phased approach using the “waterfall” method, or you may find that the project scope is too poorly defined to use such an approach and instead choose to iterate through requirements and designs to explore possibilities until everyone is on the same page and construction can begin.

Other approaches may include “chunking” your project into waves of delivery, allowing the business to take delivery of some of the deliverables early, and even the often-misunderstood agile delivery approach which combines characteristics of some of these other methods.

  • How does one know which method is best for a particular project?
  • What are the risks of choosing the wrong method?
  • How can we tell if we have made the wrong choice?
  • Can we switch part way in to the project and, if so, at what cost?

This webinar examines the range of methodology options available to a project team and presents participants with a model for choosing the right project delivery approach for any project.

Along the way, participants will better understand the benefits (and risks!) of methods including waterfall, iterative, incremental, and agile methods including the Rational Unified Process, PRINCE2, Scrum, Extreme Programming, and more

Course Learning Objectives Include:

  • Understand the four strategic approaches to organizing any project and the pros/cons of each
  • Understand what can go wrong if the wrong approach is selected for a project
  • Learn a structured process for choosing the right approach for any project

With the Course You Will Receive:

  • Access to the Live and Recorded Version of Webinar
  • Personalized Certificate of Attendance
  • Copy of Presentation Slides

When you want to become more Agile and Lean, it’s good to find out where you are right now. Many methods for introducing change in organizations assume that you are starting from scratch.

That is a wrong assumption.

Every person, team or organization is already doing some or more agile and lean practices, so let’s use that as a starting point to change.

It’s not being, but becoming Agile and Lean that brings you benefits. The journey, where you learn and improve continuously is more important then reaching the destination. Are you ready to go on an Agile trip?

Live Webinar – November 13th, 2013, 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm EST
Duration: 1 Hour Credits: 1 PDU Category B – Free PDU
Note: NetObjectives is an REP ( 3045) but this opportunity is a Category B PDU.

This webinar discusses why Scrum must be enhanced and extended with Lean to work well on all but small projects.

Many organizations have spun up several Scrum teams only to find that:

  1. Initial pilot teams do well, but moving Scrum throughout the organization becomes more challenging
  2. The progress of their Scrum teams tends to stagnate or even fall back
  3. The wins achieved often have little effect on the bottom line.

We have found that incorporating Lean into Scrum can both improve the teams’ abilities as well as enable teams to work together better.

While Lean is more than a set of tools, several practices of Kanban, a subset of Lean practices, can be used by existing Scrum teams to overcome many challenges they have.

Scrum is a framework for discovering problems quickly. Unfortunately, it provides few insights on its own to provide solutions for these problems. The thought process of product development flow, which underlies lean-Kanban’s methods, can be readily incorporated into Scrum teams – achieving many of the results pure Kanban teams achieve.

This talk discusses how theories and practices of Lean and Kanban can be used to extend Scrum at the team and product management levels.

Learning Objectives:

  • How explicit policies accelerate learning
  • How delays create additional work
  • How managing work in progress can lower delays
  • Why a positive relationship with management matters
  • How product management can lower the amount of dependency management required between teams
  • Why you can’t change culture but must change how things are managed
  • Using product managers and product owners to coordinate multiple business lines with multiple teams

The Avis Budget Group’s
Performance Excellence Model

You’ve done a great job improving a process in one area of the business. In an ideal world, that successful process change would be adopted at all site locations.

But what usually happens next?

All too often, the answer to that question is, unfortunately,

“Not Much”

That’s not the case, though, at Avis Budget Group (ABG), a leading global provider of vehicle rental services. ABG utilizes a dedicated team of 90 PEX Leaders around the globe to improve and standardize the customer car rental experience.

This model uses projects that are replicated at multiple locations and is designed to enhance the customer experience.

  • But how do they achieve that when they have over 30,000 employees and more than 10,000 rental locations?
  • And why is project replication so important to the customer experience?

Join this lively and engaging webinar to find out!

In this webinar you will:

  1. Understand why replicating projects matters to you and your company
  2. Learn Avis Budget Group’s Replication Model for Performance Excellence and get ideas on how you can successfully apply the concepts to your organization
