In an uncertain world, coaching and mentoring are two forms of learning and development that can adjust quickly to changing needs. In the coming year, HR professionals will lean even harder than usual on these development practices thanks to their dynamism. Therefore, it’s critical to understand the current trends, strengths, weaknesses and best practices in these two areas.

In this presentation, we will be discussing the findings of HR.com’s Coaching and Mentoring 2020 report and exploring research data that covers:

  • The uptick in virtual/remote coaching and mentoring
  • The effectiveness of today’s coaches and mentors
  • How coaching and mentoring are used in today’s organizations
  • The culture-related factors associated with coaching/mentoring
  • The challenges that currently hinder coaching/mentoring
  • The degree to which organizations provide formal training in these areas
  • The methods most commonly used by organizations that excel in these areas
  • The future of coaching/mentoring

Dr. Heidi Scott Chief Learning Officer HR.com will discuss why coaching and mentoring are important in our current era of economic uncertainty.

Then Heidi will discuss the degree to which coaching and mentoring are used by today’s organizations and the perceived effectiveness of those programs.

  • Is there a gap between the perceived importance of coaching/mentoring and the actual skill sets of today’s managers?
  • If so, how can organizations address those gaps?

You will also learn about the factors that hinder the workplace coaching/mentoring movement & they will discuss a range of other factors, including:

  • The need to have more frequent, quality conversations with employees,
  • The influx of younger workers, and
  • The need to revamp outdated and ineffective performance management systems.

Heidi will also examine a range of details about coaching itself. For example,:

  • Who does the coaching and mentoring in organizations?
  • Which coaching/mentoring skills do leaders tend to have,
    • which ones do they lack, and
    • which ones will they need in our fast-emerging future?

Perhaps most importantly, we will describe how organizations that excel at coaching and mentoring differ from those that do not.

Join Heidi as she discusses the results from the survey and how they may apply to your organization.
