The Use Of An Award Winning Teaching Case Study

The case study on resolving agency issues in client-contractor relationships was the winner of the 2019 DSI PMI Instructional Case Writing Competition.

Dr Christine Unterhitzenberger (the author) will present some theoretical background on the use of case studies in teaching and then introduce the case study itself and outline its potential use in online settings.

The case study focuses on the management of relationships which has been acknowledged as a crucial element of project success.

However, agency related issues such as goal conflict, information asymmetry or opportunistic behavior can make relationship management a real challenge.

The program managers for One Global Headquarters at Merck developed their own way on how to deal with this challenge in a complex and uncertain environment. This case study will provide unique insights into their approach and motivation.

Find the full case study here.

PresenterDr Christine Unterhitzenberger (LinkedIn profile) BEng MEng MAPM AFHEA, is a senior lecturer in project management and programme leader of the Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) at Liverpool Business School, LJMU. She is responsible for the development, design and delivery of the programme. Online Webinar – Recorded – May 7th 2020
Activity Type: Education – Online or Digital Media 1 PDU – Free
Provider:  Human Capital Institute

There are two constants in talent acquisition today:

  1. The market is always changing.
  2. Everything is hard to fill.

Regardless of whether you are downsizing, in a hiring freeze, or ramping up due to the coronavirus’s impacts, the needs you had before the virus hit still exist in your organization now. And no matter which category you fall under, we all must plan and prepare for the future and the inevitable rebound.

  • So, do you have a pipelining strategy?
  • Are you proactively recruiting? And
  • Do you have a micro-EVP?

Anticipating market trends is not easy, especially when pandemics come as a surprise, but proactive pipelining is smart business no matter what the market is doing. And, contrary to what many may initially assume, positioning your company to be successful at hard-to-fill hiring is not all about recruiting.

In this webcast Yates Baker, (LinkedIn profile) Vice President of Client Solutions, Sevenstep, will cover the current state of the talent market, how to set up and equip TA teams effectively, and provide strategies on where to go from here, including:

  • EVP and micro-EVP based on business units in need
  • Pay and impact on talent
  • Internal mobility, training, and productivity
  • Building a sustainable talent community, including leveraging products like a direct sourcing model
  • Talent and business intelligence – and the need for better data and comprehensive insights

Note:

SHRM has pre-approved this webcast for 1 General recertification credit hours toward aPHR™, PHR®, PHRca®, SPHR®, GPHR®, PHRi™, and SPHRi™ recertification through the HR Certification Institute.
