In the cosmic scheme of business and management, project management is a relatively new discipline. Much of what we know as modern project management was formulated in the 1950s and codified in the following couple of decades.

While a great deal has changed in organizations, project management as it is defined has been relatively stable.

There has been some evolution, but not a great deal of revolution. That raises a fairly significant question:

  • Where will project management go from here?
  • What will it look like? Is there a bleeding edge to modern practice,
  • What does it actually look like?

In this presentation Mark Mullaly (LinkedIn profile) author of Researching the Value of Project Management casts an eye to the future of project management.

Mark explores life at the outer edges of practice, and examines where innovations are most likely to occur, and what form those innovations are likely to take.

Organizations increasingly are moving away from n-tier application architectures to adopt multi-grained, cloud-native architectures, such as Mesh App and Service Architecture (MASA) and Microservices Architecture (MSA).

This trend is accelerating as organizations move to the cloud and as the market moves on from Java EE and .NET Framework platforms.

The journey from a traditional n-tier application to a modern architecture can be complex, and there are many paths that can take you from your current state to a more modern architecture.

In this webinar Matt Brasier (LinkedIn profile, Gartner bio) Gartner Sr Director Analyst provides guidance on best practices and common pitfalls to avoid when updating your legacy applications.

Discussion Topics:

  • How to modernize your n-tier applications
  • Determining if you should modernize all applications in the same way
  • Pitfalls you need to avoid
