The UK Department for Transport (DfT) asked Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) to manage a project to consider how Network Rail can best ensure the safety of our railways, while also protecting wildlife and preserving trees………”.

This follows concerns about the impact that tree felling, considered necessary for the safe operation and performance of the railway, was having on nesting bird populations.

This session is intended to demonstrate how a wide range of stakeholders with apparent competing dilemmas can work effectively together to agree what steps need to be taken to value the trees and wildlife habitats along our railway.

The presentations will close with a summary about the importance of stakeholder engagement and the floor opened to the audience for questions.

Presenters:

Dr Neil Strong, (LinkedIn profile) Biodiversity Strategy Manager, Network Rail, will talk about how they have implemented the recommendations and how they continue to do so in the context of Network Rail’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy.

John Varley OBE TD, Independent Chair of this “Varley Review”, and Estates Director of Clinton Devon Estates was appointed to deliver this work, which was project managed by RSSB. He will give you an insight into how he approached the challenge set for him.

Jane Dobson, Portfolio Head at RSSB, as Project Manager and will describe what methods are used to bring together stakeholders with conflicting interests; including those who manage the railway network, those who champion the natural environment it supports, and for those for whom biodiversity is an essential.

We are living in unprecedented times.  ‘Work’ as we know it is changing.  In order to thrive, organizations must re-invent themselves and embrace the new normal.

As a former Fortune 500 business executive who has seen it all, Jill understands how organizations operate, and what they need to do to attract, retain, and engage employees – whether they sit under your nose or work remotely.

Are remote workers uber productive?  Yes, but they also tend to feel more disengaged and neglected.

In a day and age when many people are ‘sheltering in place,’ the companies that will come out on top are the ones which create and execute a strategy to effectively manage remote workers.

Jill has that strategy, so be prepared to learn:

  1. The one thing you must know to keep remote employees engaged, enthused, and effective
  2. The importance of Connection, Communication, and Collaboration, and how to bring these things to life for employees, regardless of physical distance
  3. A proven strategy that you can apply immediately to re-engage or engage remote workers
  4. Clarity on next steps and inspiration to achieve your goals

Presenter:  Jill Christensen, Jill Christensen, (LinkedIn profile) President, Jill Christensen International & author of the best-selling book, If Not You, Who? Cracking the Code of Employee Disengagement, has uncovered a four-step strategy to turn your disengaged workforce into a unified high-performing team, resulting in increased profits, customer satisfaction, productivity, and retention.
