Use Benefits Management To Keep Your Senior Managers
On A Leash, Walking To Heel & Even Jumping Through Hoops!

  • Are you running a kennels for pet projects?
  • How do you choose the right projects and check whether they actually worked?

Keeping your portfolio of projects organised and prioritised is difficult at the best of times, but if you have no common definition of success or means of comparison, how will you know whether or not a project should be funded?

If investment decisions are made based on who does the best ‘puppy dog eyes’ (or barks the loudest) how do you keep the pet projects out of your portfolio and concentrate on your most valuable initiatives?

Do you recognize the following challenges in your organisation?

  • A lackadaisical ‘and then a miracle occurs attitude’
  • The Goldilocks business case (one option too hot, one too cold and one just perfect!)
  • The Pit Bull Terrier sponsor whose definition of success is that ‘the kit has been delivered!’
  • Shiny New Toy Syndrome: someone saw the product at a trade show and thought it looked ‘sexy’.

If you answered ‘yes,’ to any of these, then benefits management is for you. It provides a logical, repeatable discipline: a means of organising a portfolio of work and prioritising the Crufts winners over the tatty mongrels.

The webinar will build on the content and worked example in the recently released APM Learning module on benefits management.

While it is not required reading, delegates may find it useful to familiarise themselves with the module before attending the webinar. APM Learning is available to individual members with Associate or higher grades.

The BA & Business Analytics

Share

Live Webinar June 11th, 2020 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm EDT
Activity Type: Education – Course or Training  1 Hour  1 PDU free
Provider:  Modern Analyst

It might be easy for the business analyst to pass the challenges of business analytics, with all of the statistics, math, algorithms, programming in strange languages like R and Python off to the data analysts and data scientists but at the same time we may find that we are passing control of the business and of our careers to someone else.

Business analytics does not work, at least it won’t work successfully, without having some kind of business problem to solve.

Despite the mythology of data mining and data analysts coming up with magic associations and insights that no one ever saw before, it doesn’t really happen that way.

The data analysts and data scientists are brilliant at applying algorithms to massive amounts of data to produce results, but someone has to understand what the organization’s problems and issues are and form the questions that the data scientists and analysts are going to answer with data.

This webinar introduces you to the concepts of business analytics and data mining and how the business analyst plays an integral role in the overall success of business and data analytics in the organization.

Topics:
  • It sounds similar, but it’s not your job?
  • Using business analytics
  • The business analytics value chain
  • The business analyst’s role and why it’s necessary
  • Asking the right questions

Presenters: Steven P.Blais, PMP, PMI-PBA (LinkedIn profile) is an author, consultant, teacher and coach  and has over 45+ years of information systems experience in technology management, consulting and marketing positions.
