Project managers have begun to embrace the concept that they have a responsibility beyond financial value creation for a narrow group of shareholders.

Responsible project management (PM) seeks to encourage project managers (PMs) to create multiple forms of value for stakeholders (human, social and environmental) in addition to financial value.

Responsible PMs take ownership for delivery of these types of value and ensure that they enact them in their daily practice in an ethical manner.

In this way, Responsible PM is differentiated from corporate social responsibility which is focused on organisational level representations and processes of enacting societal and community responsibility.

In this session, Nigel will discuss the agency of PMs (what is our role and scope of action), the nature of responsibility managed (when should we act?), the extent of PM responsibility (to whom are we responsible/where are we responsible) and activities (what practices can we adopt that deliver our idea of responsibility).

To support our work, we’re currently conducting a survey on the extent to which the circular economy is embedded in projects. Circular Economy in Projects Survey

You are also invited to participate in a one-day online workshop that explores the competencies involved in managing projects responsibly.

Presenter: Dr Nigel L. Williams (LinkedIn profile) PMP is Senior Lecturer in Project Management at Bournemouth University.  Nigel worked for 15 years as a Project Manager and Business Consultant for manufacturing organizations in the Caribbean Region. Remember last year?  Well, don’t forget because it’s not over yet.  Everyone made up in their minds, that come 2021, we’d be back to normal.  Of course, that is not happening as quickly as we’d hope.

It seems the likelihood that we go back to 2019 NORMAL is zilch.  We are all in a continuing giant change, and change is always tough.

Rather than fighting with our brains to figure out how to go back, it’s time to look up to where we want to go.  I know that sounds like a Hallmark Story, and if we’re honest with ourselves, we know that 2019 and prior was certainly not perfect.

We all have an opportunity to create a current work world for ourselves and our teams.

Let’s start it together in this webinar.

Join with a blank piece of paper and your really cool pens out of your dusty travel backpack– Lou says “let’s make the future together”.  Using a simple template, you’ll think together about slowly beginning to walk your pathway including these questions and more:

  • What is the problem you currently have?
  • What is the results that you don’t want or have?
  • What do you think is your biggest obstacle?
  • Why is having a new future important to you?
